Taxi plunges into river at Aminbazar

A speeding taxi skidded off the road and plunged into the river Turag near Aminbazar bridge at Salehpur of Savar upazila, on Dhaka-Aricha Highway, on Sunday evening.

Fire Service and Civil Defence officials in Dhaka said that the Dhaka-bound taxi plummeted to the river at about 9:00pm.

They, however, did not confirm whether there was any passenger in the vehicle.

Officers said that the fire service divers began rescue operation but they could not trace the position of the taxi-cab until 10:30pm while there was strong current in the river.

Savar police station inspector Saiful Islam, who visited the spot, quoting witnesses, said that the yellow taxi-cab skidded off the road due to high speed.
